Just Pay Letters from HMRC

December 1st, 2010

HMRC have now taken to sending out letters demanding payments without A) specifying what payment is due B) without an address to respond to and C) without a telephone number.

This is NOT a mistake. HMRC have decided to deliberately exclude contact details. Yes there is a note of a link to website to elicit ‘phone numbers for call centres who have no knowledge of the letter whatsoever.

Is this the correct way to deal with the taxpayer? I personally think not and whosoever thought this wheeze up should be ashamed.

Fear of tax investigations is increasing as HMRC respond to Coalition calls to maximise the tax revenues

November 2nd, 2010

The fear of tax investigations is increasing as HMRC respond to Coalition calls to maximise the tax revenues. We have all heard the news that in these times of cuts and job losses HMRC are to be GIVEN £900m to tackle tax evasion and avoidance. Hornchurch businesses are no different from any others and callers to AJM are concerned.

Fines and Penalties are swingeing and all in favour of HMRC and let’s not forget the interest.

The best way to survive a tax investigation is to get your bookkeeping “up to scratch” and keep it that way. Bad records are the single most cause of ”losing” a tax investigation, the second is businessman being ill-prepared for the investigation.

If you are worried then call us for a FREE 2 hour consultation on 01708-437917 and ask for Tony.
